Sunday Mornings

20th March 2020 by laurah

Click here on a Sunday morning to join in the service at home.

We as a church stream all our 10:30 in person services to our Facebook Page.
This not only enables those who cannot make the in-person services due to illness, age or infirmity to watch the service, but also those who may want to watch from further afield.

Everyone is welcome to join us.
• Our worship will follow the St Luke’s format:
• We welcome everyone
• Have a time of worship
• Have some community time during which we hope to interact with people, please comment on the stream to join in.
• We’ll then have a Bible reading, with a talk based on the passage
• To end our time together we’ll pray
• Followed by Communion before a final song and blessing.

Hunslet Gathering

22nd November 2019 by laurah

You are invited to come and join our church plant in Hunslet – the Hunslet Gathering!

We love the south of Leeds, all of it, not only our patch. And we are excited to support other churches reach out into their community with the Good News of Jesus.

If you live in LS10 (Hunslet or Belle Isle), you might be interested in the Hunslet Gathering. You can follow us on Facebook and  visit our Website find out what we are doing.

The Hunslet Gathering meets at the Involve center (next to the library) in Hunslet – Involve Learning Center, Whitfield Ave, Hunslet, Leeds LS10 2QE.

We are a growing community of families and individuals seeking to share the good news of Jesus, grow in numbers and serve the community of Hunslet by planting a new Church of England church.

We gather in the Involve center on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 3.30pm, starting formally at 3.45pm. We start with a few worship songs; hear news from people; share stories; hear a reading from the Bible; think about the reading in more detail (usually in a fun way); around tables we talk and share how the reading makes us feel; we pray; and finally we move into meal time. We ALWAYS end our gatherings with food. We aim to finish the service about 4.45pm, and eat until about 5.30pm – though these times aren’t fixed.

  • We hope that we’ll have fun and laugh together, but also share life together – the highs and lows.
  • We hope that the gathering will be a place to meet God, but also neighbours and new folk.
  • We hope that the time suits people with young families and others for whom morning services aren’t accessible.
  • We hope this will be a place for those who know God a lot and those who don’t even know if God is there
  • We hope as people attend they want to help run and contribute to the gathering – everyone involved.
  • We hope that our community will be served by coming together – we believe God wants the best for Hunslet!
The Hunslet Gathering team is growing – it’s great to see people joining in. At present, for more information feel free to contact
This church plant is being led by St Luke’s Holbeck. Here’s an article about us.
Community involvement
We are working with the council, diocese and local residents about the future of the iconic church spire. The old St Mary’s church building was demolished early 2019, leaving the spire standing alone. There has been concern regarding the future of the spire, but currently there are no plans to see the spire taken down. The hope is that an exciting partnership will emerge that safeguards the future of the historic monument, while developing creative plans to use the spire and lands.
In addition, we are seeking strong links with other churches in Hunslet: Church of the Nazarene, Baptist Church, Methodist Church and West Grange.
We support the Hunslet Gala, the work of the Involve centre and are talking to the new Community Hub about working in partnership.

Church, Hub and our sponsors

25th July 2019 by laurah

The extension in now finished at the west end of church. This has create more space and community rooms, which we want to fill with new projects throughout the week. These vibrant community projects will range from youth programmes to work with the elderly.

Your Community Hub

We love our community and so we can continue to serve and increase our capacity to respond to these needs we are in the process of building a community hub. Our existing church building and facilities have been refurbished and extended to provide increased space and resources. The are fully accessible, have a well equipped kitchen, new meeting rooms to run projects, an IT suite and office space.

We are  able to host many more community events, drop-ins and advice services, provide activities including dance and arts opportunities for children and young people and events for the elderly.   We will work to empower local people with various learning volunteering and upskilling opportunities – bringing communities together.

Building commenced in July 2019 and was finished in March 2020.  This is enabling to to bring significant positive impact and growth.

We recognise that the hub would not have been possible without the backing of numerous supporters. We are extremely grateful for generous financial support received from The Community Fund, LCES, All Churches Trust, Bernard Sunley, National Churches Trust, and Cloth Workers, as well as many local people and other anonymous donors – Sincerest thanks for enabling us to reach, serve and change the lives of the amazing people surrounding us.
